Prof. Michael Bremner
UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY SYDNEY
Professor Michael Bremner is the Director of the Centre for Quantum Software and Information at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). Michael is also a Chief Investigator in the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence in Quantum Computation and Communication Technology (CQ2T). He represents UTS on the Executive Advisory Board of the Sydney Quantum Academy, and is also serving as co-Editor in Chief of the Nature Partner Journal Quantum Information.

Quantum Algorithms and Complexity, Bremner group
Prof Michael Bremner leads the ARC CQC2T Quantum Algorithms and Complexity Program. This team identifies applications for quantum computers that demonstrate power beyond classical computing. They examine the advantage offered by quantum processors in the near and long term, identifying the key characteristics of quantum applications that can outperform classical computers. A central aspect of this work is the development of benchmark algorithms that demonstrate the capabilities of quantum computers in the near-to-medium term and that are clearly on the pathway to scaling-up for implementation on more ambitious long-term quantum computing architectures. This team works closely with the CQC2T’s and QSI’s other programs to optimise quantum computing processor architectures, informed by the latest developments in the theory of quantum algorithms, complexity, and error correction.
Our work is supported by the ARC Centre of Excellence for Quantum Computation and Communication Technology, DARPA, and Google.
